Earth Hour 2010

Earth Hour is a National Holiday in the U.S. and in many other countries. It first started in Sydney, Australia in 2007.  Earth Hour is when people turn off all their electricity in their homes for one hour. The things people can do are light candles, sing songs, tell stroies, have a camp fire outside, play games, and talk. This is a time to bond with your family without electricity. This is how you can show your family that you care abotu them even if a tragedy like you being homeless happened. I am going to sing songs, play games, and tell stories on Earth Hour. What will you do? You DO NOT need electronics to bond with friends and family, ALL YOU NEED IS EACH OTHER.

Some people may not know this but there was a huge earthquake in haiti. I would like to do a fun raiser for haiti or give some things to the Red Cross. Haiti had the biggest quake in the world. They are very poor. It is sad that every day people like us had to have a diasaster happen to them.

My New Book

Today in class we were making books. My book is called Adam’s tales of short stories and poems. On my book I drew a Toucan, Blue Jay, Owl, Vulture, Tree Boa, and a Secretary Bird. It is about all the things we did in class. It is mostly about quote, poems, and short stories. I feel like I am a real author. It feels so cool. I can’t wait until the book gets binded.

Green Darners In the Air

This morning when I came to school the daragonfly was on the window. I was so happy. Yesterday Ms. Lenahan was beating herself up because she thought it was dead. We are not sure whether the Green Darner is an immature male or a female. The male gets it’s color by eating. The color of a Green Darner is blue and green. It’s scientific name is Anax Junius. It is one of the largest fastest flying of the living dragonflies. They can fly up to 53 mph. It can eat a humming bird. It can see a full circle around them. Another name for the nymph is a naiad.  The range of the Green Darner is Canada, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, and through out the whole U.S.A. The Dragonfly family is called Aeshnidae. The Green Darner provides food for fish, turtles, frogs, and birds.

A Crazy Day

Today Ms. Lenahan saw a injured Herring Gull. Ms. Lenahan brought it to school. Before school Ms. Lenahan said that the Herring Gull had vomited on her. Ms. Lenahan was mad. This was when the day started to get crazy. After that Ms. Lenahan was even madder because a dragonfly nymph hatched over the weekend and Ms. Lenahan didn’t put anything over the tank and it got out. The class and I think the dragonfly is dead. Now she is beating her self up because of a minor mistake. Things happen and nobody is perfect so Ms. Lenahan shouldn’t be beating herself up.

At The Refuge

The refuge- In the morning my team and I were measuring the wind speed and humidity. The people in my team were Chanelle, Lee’Sa, Arielle, Ayala, and Princess. We had to go to three different places. We had to go to the field, the forest, and the pond. To measure the wind speed and the humidity we used a thing called a kestrel. It was named after the bird. When we were in the field I saw a Fowlers Toad. Then we also saw a Golden Moth. We didn’t know the actual name of it. Then we moved on into the forest. In the forest the bugs were really bad. Chanelle was glad when we got out of the forest. Then we moved onto the pond. I was very interested in the pond. At the pond I caught a cricket and a dragonfly nymph.

In the afternoon we went bird watching. As soon as we got there we saw a Great Egret. Then we got out of the bus and I went up on the tower. When I was on the tower I saw a Black Skimmer.  When I went down I saw about 30 Black Skimmers. I looked in the scope and I saw a Peregrine Falcon. The Falcon was sitting on a tower. He was pretty. Then out of no where a huge Osprey leaped out of the water. Then I saw a black skimmer skimming.

Pythons

Pythons are a snake. Some of them are small and some are very big. Some of them can get as large as an Anaconda. They are constrictors. Constrictors choke or crush their prey to kill it so they can eat it. Did you know that pythons are not poisonous. Pythons come in many colors. Some are black, yellow, green, etc. Never touch a python on the head. They may not be poisonous but they have a nasty bite and they will choke you.

Anacondas

Anacondas are the worlds largest snake. In Venezuela they have many of them. When you got to marshes I can almost guarantee that you will see and Anaconda. In a show that I was watching a man who went to Venezuela went looking for an Anaconda. He found a small female Anaconda that was 11 ft. tall. Anacondas are constrictors that crush their prey’s bone.
